As I recall the census, William & Mary Matilda (Hooper) McClurg were the last residence, # 1382 Listed in the 11th Civil District. # 1383 family number began the 12th Civil District with Cynthia Pickens. The surname McClary may well be James and Elizabeth Scothorn McClurg family as they were born 1778 PA and 1770 VA. James McClurg used the spelling McCLORG which this emumerator may have misspelled for sure as he did leave out those ten families. I was not too cocerned as to whether he was misspelled etc. as I already knew he was interred at the Eusibia Presb. Church, you have to stumble over the tombstone to get in the front door of the church. And I knew Elizabeth showed for the 1860 census. Most researchers trying to tie on to 1850 William McClurg. I was more interested in Harvey Bell McClurg family and they were not listed. There is a Harvey McClure, 1850 Blount Co Census, but followed him out and he was indeed a McClure. James and Elizabeth Scothorn McClurg married in Rockingham Co VA as did Brother John McClurg to Hannah Bell.Elizabeth Scothorn's brother, Lewis Scothorn married Hannah Bell's sister Rebecca Bell.
All of John & Hannah Bell McClurg's children finally left Blount Countyand descendants went to the four corners. Not so with James and Elizabeth (Scothorn) McClurg's children as far as I have been able to find. They remained in Blount.
When researchers come back to Blount County trying to connect, what I am saying is the records are very misleading to them.
I believe you will find Elizabeth Scothorn living with William & Matilda Hooper McClurg's residence in 1860.
Hopefully some of the data mentioned will assist someone in the future. I don't believe there are any researching this area at the present.
