Opal Marie McCluskey, nee Etter, 88 of Portland, OR died Sunday, April 9, 2006. She was born January 3, 1918 in North Vernon, Jennings County, IN. Opal was an undergraudate of Purdue University, a Registered Nurse from Henrotin School of Nursing (Chicago) and obtained a Masters Degree in psychology from Northeastern University (Chicago) at age 59. Opal practiced nursing for many years and was the Director of Student Nursing at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, IL. Following retirement she worked as nurse psychologist with the Elgin Mental Health Hospital. In 1982 and following her husband's death, Opal relocated to Portland to be near her daughter. She was an avid gardener and studied Bonsai during her retirement, traveling to Japan and Hawaii for her studies and was a member of the International Bonsai Society. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Grace; her loving husband Robert; her sister, Helen Wingfield and three brothers, Harley, Dale and Eugene. Opal is survived by her four children, Robert of Evanston, IL; Thomas of Joliet, IL; Mary Vertopoulos (Osborn) of Vancouver, WA; and Timothy of Berkeley, CA; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, April 17, 2006 from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. with Fr. Edward Seisser of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Mt.
