I suppose it's a bit late now to answer your message of over a year ago - but here goes anyway. If you wish, I can add more detail although nothing like as much as I'd like.
John McColl, weaver in Duachy, near island of Seil in northern Argyll, b vaguely about the 1720s. Married Mary MacQueen and had at least three children
Angus, cottar, b approx 1750s, moved to Kilmelford a few miles away. Married Catherine Paterson from Seil in 1781. They had nine children, four of went to Ontario between 1815 and 1842.
John, shoemaker, b 1796. Married Mary Buchanan from Lismore. They moved to Glasgow with their three children and a fourth was born there. In 1842 they joined their siblings in Canada
Angus, b 1834, teacher, travelling salesman and started(with his youngest brother John) the original McColl Brothers of oil company fame. Married Mary Leonard and they had three children.
Ernest, b 1881. WWI war hero, well a bit of a hero anyway, and trade commissioner for Canada after the war. Married Mildred Belden whose father was publisher of the Ontario county maps and whose mother was Paul Peel's sister. They begat my father and he begat me. My son is the first of our McColl line born in the Highlands in over 150 years.
Most of the above people are dead now which I suppose is not unreasonable, but I am still available to ask questions of.
