Hi Cousins, I too am descended from the McColls, my ggg grandmother was Mary McColl born in Achphuble, Ardgour c.1751 daughter of Alexander & Catherine McColl. Achphuble is just east of Blaich and thats where the McColls settled coming across the Loch from Appin, the McColl's clan lands.Alexander's father Ewen McColl came from Appin to settle in Ardgour he was born about c.1700.He had other children including John McColl. It would appear your John McColl was a son of John McColl and Jean/Janet Rankin, and he in turn was a son of Alexander McColl. I note from the 1841 cencus John & Christian lived next door to my own family in Blaich. He then lived next door to Alexander McColl born 1753,in Achphuble in 1851.According to the cencus he was born in Gerradh, Ardgour another estate farm down Loch Linnhe. My Mary McColl married Lachlan MacLean they lived at Garvan , Gerradh, and Blaich. The Achaphuble McColls to whom you belong are buried at "Cille Mhaodain" or Old Keil cemetery on the way round to Corran from Blaich on Loch Linnhe.Beside my gr gr Grandfathers grave is a stone of his mother's family for Hector and Alexander McColl 1820 Tenants of Achphuble (Marys two brothers ?).To be buried in this small cemetery the McColls would have married into the MacLean clan. As this is where the MacLean Lairds are buried. Most others fromthe Blaich area would have been buried across the Loch in the Kilmallie Church yard.
