My GGGrandfather-Abraham McCollister (or McCallister, as spelled by other members of the family), was born in Shenandoah County, Va. Oct. 4, 1803, and came to Fairfield Co. Ohio, with his parents in 1810.His education was limited as the advantages were poor.He attended school in a log cabin of the rudest descriptuib, He came to Hocking co. Ohio in a very early day, and was married May 15, 1825 in Fairfield co. to Marie WOltz, daughter of George Woltz. They had seven children, Elizabeth, (Now Mrs. Eddie Davis) , Mary A.(now Mrs Jacob Snyder, Thomas-mrd. Nancy Hurd, David Mrd. a Sands, Martha md. Henry Baker, Hettie mrd Jacob Lama, Almira mrd. William D. Buckingham, For the most of his life Mr. McCollister has been a farmer, but for seven or eight years he was engaged in making chairs and eleven years he followed the draying business in Nelsonville, Ohio, Mrs. Marie McCollister died in April 9, 1879 and he married Oct. 28, 1879 to Mrs. Rebecca Loomis.
