There is a long genealogy for the McConnell/McDonnell's who are of Clan Donald heritage who became Galloglas (Mercenary soldiers)for the various Irish Lords in the northern counties of Ireland circa 1300's to 1600's and down into the Leinster Province of Ireland. They became Galloglas Captains for the Regional Irish Lord's Armies when fighting against rival Lords. There are many accounts of these McConnell/McDonnell Captains marrying into the Irish Lord's family and often became landed regional Lords themselves. There is a Leinster/Beaty/Byrne's DNA Project for person's who fit the DNA profile for people who seem to descend from this area of Ireland. Since my McConnell family appear to be associated with this DNA profile, and we are in both the Clan Donald Project and the Leinster Irish Modal Group Project as well, I am intereseted in comparing our 67 DNA marker results with any other McConnell/McDonnell/MacDonald who may also trace their roots as Galloglas to the Irish Lords in Ireland and especially to the Province of Leinster in Ireland. This information will also be shared with Kirsten Saxe, a Project Administrator for the 464x,15c,15c,17g,17g/ Leinster Group. Thanks.
