JOHN McCONVILLE
John McConville, age 69 of Freehold, [NY] formerly of Bergenfield, NJ passed away suddenly at Kingston Hospital in Kingston [NY] on August 25, 1992. He was born in County Down, Ireland on Aug. 9, 1922, son of the late Patrick and Margaret McAlarney. He was retired from the Grand Union in Carlstadt, NJ.
Mr. McConville served his country during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps. He participated in action against the enemy at the Solomon Islands, Guam and Iwo Jima. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Knock Council, the Rosary Society, the Greenville American Legion Post #291, the Irish American Cultural Center in East Durham, [NY] and was a eucharistic minister at St. John the Baptist Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9 a.m. Friday from St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville [NY]. Friends may call at the Cunningham Funeral [Home] in Greenville on Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will also be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday from St. Mary's Church in Dumont, NJ. Friends may call at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 S. Washington Ave., Bergenfield, NJ on Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.
Surviving are his wife the former Mary K. White, two sons John McConville of Syracuse [NY]; Patrick McConville of Dumont, NJ; four daughters: Mary Beety of Oradell, NJ; Maureen Dunn of Clifton Park, [NY] Kathleen Dailey of Dumont, NJ and Monica Challener of Bergenfield, NJ; also 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a brother Joseph McConville of West Caldwell, NJ; a sister Jean Seargent of Corning, [NY] and several nieces and nephews. A brother James McConville predeceased him.
