McKown/McCown Y-DNA Matches
James Charles McKown matches William McCown exactly at
12 and 25 marker and on 36 of 37 markers.Since these two surnames are truly the very same name, the difference being
in who anglicized the name.Since there is no K in Gaelic,
the name should be spelled with a C for the K sound.
The importance of our matches is that only James and my cousin, Sam, among the various Mccown/McKowns tested to date match me exactly on the first 25 markers and on 36 of 37 markers---and, we all have DNA very close to that of the ruling line of Maguire. If you have been considering taking the test, do it under the FTDNA McCown Surname Group. At http://www.familytreedna.comhttp://www.familytreedna.com, at the top right hand corner, click where it says equals, type in McCown and it will take you to a lot of important information about the surname group and the tests.
Documents often contain errors, both intentional and accidental but Y-DNA just cannot lie.Plus, the Maguires are one of the very few clans of the blood, meaning that from the chief to the lowliest servant or field hand, have the same blood.
