I am hoping to trace a family that was in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co, OH by 1860 back to an apparent origin in PA.
Margaret, born about 1825-1830 in PA, married Abel Carpenter about 1855, probably in Hamilton Co OH (where he was in 1850 and the family remained).Their son's death certificate gives his mother's name as Margaret McCreary. Rebecca, born about 1840-1845 in PA, married John Jackson about 1869, probably in Hamilton Co OH or Campbell Co KY (where the family lived from 1870 on).Her death certificate gives her parents' names as Thomas M Creary and Margaret Wunder. Sarah Elizabeth, born about 1846-1848 in PA, married Albert Cole in 1866, per marriage announcement in a Cincinnati OH newspaper. She was at that time Sarah Elizabeth Hallem (the spelling variants are numerous).
Sarah Elizabeth was probably living in Margaret's home in 1870.Rebecca and Sarah Elizabeth were possibly living in Margaret's home in 1860.(In both cases Margaret is clearly identifiable, and the others are plausible but not certain.)I do not know where any of them were in 1850, when two of them would have been children.Census searches have yielded hints but nothing definitive.
In a letter written in 1915, Rebecca's daughter addresses Sarah Elizabeth's son as "cousin", and mentions a half dozen other people who are by inference relatives and turn out to be Margaret's children and grandchildren.
My interest in this is that Sarah Elizabeth and Albert Cole were my gg-grandparents.
