You have heard of the first families of Kentucky, South Carolina and Georgia, but they are not more distinguished than the first families of Virginia, from whom we descend. These first in Scotland and then in Ireland.I find that George McCreary was born in North Ireland, 1752, was one of those strong and rugged type of manhood known as Scotch Irish. He came to this country at the beginning of the Revolutionary War.We first find him in York County, Pennsylvania, from where, on May 1, 1776, he enlisted in the colonial Army:-After the expiration of his services we find him baxk in Virginia, Loudon County, just across the river from Alexander, one of the most fertile valleys of the East. Here he remained until about 1801 and then emigreted and settled in Ohio, what is now Morrow Count, at a time when everything was all but pleasant.-----------------------------------------
