So far as we know all the McCuan's in the U.S. migrated from Limestone County, Alabama. My part of the McCuan Family moved from Alabama to Texas and then on to Indian Territory (Oklahoma). In a book published by one of my cousins Noble McCuan called the "Family McCuan" he cited material gathered by a Jimmie Joe McCuan who first looked into our family. In his book he said that William Jacob, James, John William and Mary Hannah McCuan treked from Alabama to Graves County, Kentucky. They first apeared on land records there in the late 1830's. Parrot Albert McCuan, a son of William Jacob built a large two story house in Lynnville, KY in the middle 1800's. Claiborn McCuen, was listed on the 1834 tax lists in 1834 at Tearpin Creek along with William, James and Jacob. In our book they were believed to be brothers or first cousins. My guess is that is when your name changed to McCuen. I hope this is of help to you.
