Robert E. Lee McDorman, whose son was John Azariah McDorman, born in Nebraska, was NOT the son of George Washington McDorman and Clarissa Elizabeth Watson. I have seen this mistake in LDS records, but it is indeed a mistake.
Robert E. Lee McDorman was the son of John McDorman and Sarah Ann Tuning (sometimes mistakenly referred to as Tusing or Cushing).
In the 1860 census, John and Sarah and their two children (at that time) were living at the home of his mother, Nancy McDorman, in Rockingham County, Virginia, and his occupation was a day laborer.
In 1870 Census of Rockingham, Virginia, John and Sarah had five children: Elizabeth, John Wm., Charles A., Robert L. William H.
John and Sarah moved from Virginia to Ohio sometime after 1872 (their son James E. was born in Ohio about 1874). after which they moved to Iowa before 1878, as their daughter Nancy E., was born 1878 in Iowa.
After the move to Iowa, we find Sarah in the 1880 Census with the name Mc Dorman (space betwen Mc and Dorman, making it hard for search engines to find them)
This John McDorman was a BROTHER to George Washington McDorman or Rockingham, Virginia, and Boone County, WV. George Washington McDorman and wife Clarissa Elizabeth Watson had a son named Lee Davis McDorman who was born in 1861, WV, married Dora Ferril in 1891 Fayette County, WV, and died in 11 Sept. 1894 of accidental gunshot wound. I have been to Lee's gravesite at the old McDorman cemetery in Ashford, WV.
I hope this helps to clear this up.
