I came across a family tree starting with Alexander Dove McDougald and Martha Shaw a year or so ago.The family was not part of my McDougald branch so I forgot about them until a came across your query.You may already have this information but here is what I have on their family.The tree continues through the first 7 of their children so if you are interested in the rest, let me know.
1.Alexander Dove1 MCDOUGALD, son of Alexander D MCDOUGALD, was born in South Carolina circa 1794. He married Martha SHAW circa 1819.Martha was born circa 1798 in South Carolina.She was listed as a resident in the census report 1860 in Pike County, Alabama.She was enumerated with Ellen FINLEY. Ellen and two of her sisters were spinsters. Their parents were Archibald FINLAY and Eleanor CAMPBELL. Their relationship, if there was one, to Martha is unknown. She was listed as a resident in the census report 1870 in Crenshaw County, Alabama.She lived with her son, Hugh. Crenshaw County had been formed from part of Pike County. Martha died after 1870. Alexander was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 Census in Darlington County, South Carolina.Alexander was between 26 and 45 years of age. With him were three younger males. The oldest may have been his brother Ephraim MCDOUGALD. The youngest may have been his son John Dove MCDOUGALD who was born in 1820. There were two females--both age 16-26 One was probably Martha SHAW MCDOUGALD. An interesting thing is that three of the members of the household were foreign born. They had nine slaves.
Alexander signed a petition in Darlington County, South Carolina in 1821. A census listed Alexander as head of household 1830 in Darlington County, South Carolina.They moved to Alabama about 1834. A census listed Alexander as head of household 1840 in Pike County, Alabama.There is a girl age l0-l5 that I have no record of. Alexander was a Captain in the Creek War, McDugald's Company, Denson's Alabama Infantry. He was Justice of the Peace in 1836 in Pike Co, Alabama. Alexander bought land in 1836 and 1845. He witnessed a deed in 1849. In 1852 Alexander received land by Military Warrant. A census listed Alexander as head of household 1850 in Pike County, Alabama. 287/287 Alexander McDugald age 57 farmer, value of real estate, $500, born South Carolina Martha, age 52, born South Carolina Alexander, age 28, born South Carolina Hugh, age 24, born South Carolina Daniel, age 22, born South Carolina Caroline, age 19, born South Carolina Martha, age 16, born Alabama James, age 12, born Alabama Margaret, age 10, born Alabama
Alexander died before 1860 probably in Alabama.
