Hello, Can anyone researching the NYC McElwains identify either of the 2 below who were living in New York City in 1890?
Entries from the 1890 NYC directory: McElwaine, Thomas, plasterer, h 206 E 117th McIlvaine, Thomas, artist, 65 Warren, h 110 E 81st St.
My gg-gf, [who would be the father to this Thomas] was named Thomas J. McElwain, born about 1828 Vermont, lived in NYC and died March 1863; casualty of Civil War; got very sick and sent home to Delancey Street, NYC to die. It is his son Thomas Francis McElwain that I'm trying to find. He was born Dec. 1857 in NYC. The last time I see him is on the 1880 census in NYC. Then the 1900 census for his widowed mother [Maria A. Glennon McElwain, living with son-in-law James Flynn and daughter Agnes Gertrude McElwain Flynn], shows that of her 2 children, only one was still living then. I am currently going through the NYC death indices, trying to find his death record but haven't found him yet.
