In trying to chase down info for my Stegall and Summers families a few years back,I came across tidbits about the McElyeas.Daniel Fletcher McElyea's 2nd wife,Lemira "Jane" Summers (Stegall),was my 2gr grandmother. Her 1st husband, Wm. "Alexander" Stegall was my 2gr grandfather.
The following two articles were printed in Yellville, AR newspaper, The Mountain Echo:
April 12, 1889 Issue

February 3, 1893 Issue
Obit:D.F. McElyea born March 3, 1815 in Obine Co, TN married February 23, 1839.Belonged to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church while in Tennessee. Then moved in 1871 to this state (ARK) and joined the M.E. Church South. He died December 8, 1892.His first wife, Mary, died May 11, 1861, and he married again September 17, 1861.He was the father of 18 children. He leaves his 2nd wife and seven children to mourn.
I didn't copy the source for the following, but I'm certain it was TN history:
McElyea, Robert:Died before Nov. 1837 when provision was made for his widow, Mary;his minor heirs were Louisa J., Marcus L., Felix G., and P.H.E.M. McElyea, with Daniel McElyea as guardian.By 1842, the minors are given as Louisa J., Marcus, Felix, and Elizabeth.Lived in District 2.(CM?).
I am not positive if this is Daniel Fletcher McElyea or not.I seem to remember finding two Daniels in the area at that particular time and wondering which one was the guardian.
All of this might be old news to you.Thought I'd pass it on just in case as I have noticed on the forum some questions about parentage.
Daniel F. McElyea and Lemira "Jane" Summers were married in Camden, Benton, TN.Might the "CM" written after District 2 (above) refer to Camden?
