Hi Beth
My name is Yvonne and my Father in Law is one James McErlean the eldest son of John McErlean born 1914 at the Island, Ballynease Rd, Portglenone.
Your father was John's brother I believe, James who emigrated to the US.
I do not know much except that Barney died around 1990, and that John's youngest Son Cathal now resides at the Island with his family. Barney had no children. I have not looked for the sister Mary yet.
Your father James McErlean's father was James McErlean and he was married to Elizabeth McGregor, theirs was the greatest love story. James had left Ireland and gone to the US where he met Elizabeth on route, she had to come home to tend to her sick mother Suzanne Fullerton/McGregor who then died and James could not live with out her so he came home and then they married.
I believe that the McErlean generation is as follows, however I do not have this confirmed...it is information passed down our family line.
James McErlean Born 1929 (My Father In Law)
John McErlean Born 1914 - 1989 (married Bridget McCusker)
James McErlean Born 1878 - 1961 (married Elizabeth McGregor)
Patrick McErlean Born 1847 - ? (married Mary McIlhatton)
James McErlean Born 1820 - ? (married unknown)
The Island as it is known which is now the family McErlean home actually was passed from Suzanne Fullerton McGregor to her daughter Elizabeth McGregor (died 1929) who married into the McErlean clan.
James McErlean c1820 had Patrick and Mary Jane
Patrick & Mary c 1847 had James, Minnie, John, Patrick and William John
James & Elizabeth c1878 had John 1914, Mary 1916, Barney 1917, Patrick 1921 died 1957, James your father 1924.
If this is of interest to you please contact me
Kind Regards
