Like other researchers, I am haunted by the mystery of Alexander McEwen b. 1845 in Scotland d. 1928 Iowa, m. Delilah Hamble 1875.I am unable to directly link him via birth records or census records to his supposed parents Rev. John McEwen and Mary McIntosh; however, I have good reason to believe that these were indeed his parents.Reason 1- Personal correspondence in my possession addressed to Alexander from a cousin dated 1870s which refers to not only visiting his parents at the Manse in Scotland but also references his brother 'Robert'.Reason 2-1925 census for Iowa gives his parents names as John McEwen and Mary Mackintosh(certainly, he knew the names of his own parents).Reason 3- Pioneers of Pocahontas County, Iowa also links to Alexander to this family(he was still living at the time of publication so he must have been a source). Despite this data I remain troubled by the claim of some researchers that Alexander is not part of this family because I can not dispute the fact that he is not listed on the early census records for this family. Any help would be appreciated?
