Terry, write or email the Newport TN Plain Talknewspaper and request a copy of the May 23, 2004 Article, The Skeleton in the Harper Closet" by John D. Harper. Offer to pay for the copying and postage.
Eliza (Elizabeth Ann McFalls) was the daughter of Edward "Ned" Leatherwood and Salonia Birchfield.Eliza m1 Joseph McCracken who was killed in the Civil War. She m 2 Mack (who later changed his name to Mark) Harper who was a married man the best we can tell with a wife and kids in Cocke Co.TN (if he ever divorced the first wife we have no evidence of it. I also don't know if they had a legal marriage. If so it would b e in Haywood NC, I think.
Regardless, they lived as husband and wife and had a family.
