James McGarrah, the father of all the original Arkansas, Texas, and California McGarrah families passed through Tennessee on his way to Arkansas. In 1804 James McGarrah according to family tradition had twin sons, John and George born in Caney Fork, TN. The first time our James McGarrah actually showed up on documentation was records in Arkasas. I now have documentation of James McGarrah living in White Co., TN. If his twin sons were born in Caney Fork, actually it sould be along the Caney Fork River, then he should have remained in that area for a spell before moving on to Arkansas. I finally found proof he was there:

This day came the parties by their attornies and thereupon came a Jury of good and lawful men viz: Ericus Smith, Caleb Farley, Robert Puckett, Tolver Wright, Soloman Burford, Andrew Smith, William Stewart, John McClane, James McGarrah, Clem Clements, Thomas McDaniel, James Taylor... As witness my hand and seal this 11th Febry. 1808...
(White Co, TN court minutes)
This places James McGarrah still living in White Co., TN in 1808, four years after John and George were born, and three years before he shows up in Arkansas.
Coincidently Thomas McGarrah (remember he deserted "died" at the Battle of New Orleans, 1815), his son William McGarr, by his wife Anna, was born 14 June 1808 in White Co., TN.
Same year and the same county in the same state. Coincident? I think not!
