I would greatly appreciate any help I can get!I have been searching for McGillicks for quite awhile. For a relatively uncommon name they are hard to find! It's great to finally hear from someone with that name.
The info from the Meath Heritage center doesn't include copies of anything. They did say there were 3 other children that "appear" to be the same family - Mayr b. 1841, Mary b. 1847; Mathew b. 1844. They indicate the baptismal records are from the Moynalty parish.Would you know if that is a Catholic parish or protestant?Patrick was Catholic but his brother John appears to be protestant.
They indicate taht John McGillick died 1882 in Kells & Bridget McGillin 1862.They are assuming thse are the same ones - which seems likely to me!
Anyway, this is all I have on the connection in Ireland.Patrick came to America in 1860 and was naturalized in IL.
I have had info on Patrick & John for years but just got the info from Meath recently so the Smith connection is new.It is definitely more common than McGillick!
Patrick McGillick m. Catherine Lynch; her parents were Patrick Lynch and Catherine Harvey.Patrick's children were James b. after 1868 in IL, Mary (my gr. grandmother); John Edward and Catherine. I think James died young as no one in the family remembers him & Grandma thought she had an uncle that died as a child. There was some talk of hearing a banshee & hearing/seeing a wagon come up the road.
Mary McGillick m. John Burke in Ipswich, SD on 2 Nov 1889 (the day SD became a state). They had 9 children, including my Grandmother.Grandma died about 5 years ago at 98.
Anyway, that's my line.Any info you have would be appreciated.
