I need some collaboration from McGimsey researchers. My interest in Robert McGimsey is in his wife Mary. My ancestor Francis Harbison, born in 1758, went into the Rev. War as a paid substitute for Robert McGimsey, according to his pension record from the National Archives. Both men lived in Hamiltonbann Township, York County, PA, as of the 1782 tax list. Francis was 14 households away from Robert McGimsey on the 1790 census.Since Mary Harbison was the wife of Robert, it seems quite possible that Mary was related to Francis. Do any of you know any more about Mary Harbison? I see from one online site that she was born in the U.S., while Robert immigrated from County Down, IRE. He must have met her after he arrived.
My family research on Fultons, Harbisons, and other lines has also turned up sales of land by William McGimsey, son of Robert, in Indiana Co., PA, in years from 1810-20. At the end of each land description it states that the land was warranted in 1785 by Robert McGimsey and had been inherited by his son William. William and his wife Fanny both sign these deed transfers, and on one sale in 1815 they list their home as the Town of Williamsburg, Woodberry Township, Huntingdon County (that area is now Blair County). Robert's 1785 grant was in Westmoreland County, some of which in 1803 became part of Indiana County.
I'm happy to share any information I have, and welcome any help you McGimsey researchers can give me.
