By genealogy.com user August 06, 1998 at 07:47:53

Looking for information on Johnnie McGimsey. He was named for his Grandfather, Dr. John Witherspoon Pettigrew McGimsey. After his Grandfathers death in 1874 and his father (James Gillespie McGimsey) in 1875 his mother was having a hard time making it in Baton Rouge, La. and his Grandfather Smith brought the family to Nelson County, KY in 1881.Johnnie did not like KY and headed back alone to Baton Rouge to live with his Grandmother McGimsey (Martha M.C. McGimsey) but never arrived according to his Grandmother.I believehe did arrive at his Grandmothers and probably later married and has descendants somewhere in the US.His parents are James Gillespie McGimsey andHarriet Amelia (Smith) McGimsey.
