Capt. William A. McGinety, Co. E, 7th Regiment Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry,U.S.A
Two McGinetys served in this regiment which would indicate they probably were related.The relationship was not father and son but was probably brothers or cousins or maybe a nephew.
William A. McGinety was b. 26 February 1840 near Lexington, Fayette Co., Kentucky.
He served in the Kentucky State Guards.
Enlisted 15 July 1862 at Demossville, Pendleton Co., Kentucky as a Pvt. in Company E.His occupation when enlisted was harness maker.
Personal description:fairly complected, eyes blue, brown hair.
He was captured 17 July 1862 in the first battle at Cynthiana, Harrison Co., Kentucky (two days after having enlisted). He was paroled two or three days later and sent to Camp Chase, Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio as a paroled prisoner.While there, about 1 December 1862, he contracted mumps. (Apparently missed the battle at Big Hill and Richmond, Madison Co., Kentucky 27 thru 31 August 1862 dlb)
Mustered in with the 7th at Franklin, Tn. 11 March 1863.
July 1863 near Nashville, Tn. contracted scurvy.
7 December 1863 at Sparta, Tn. contracted chills and fever from exposure on a march.Draft rendevous at Louisville, Kenucky, March 1864, returned to regiment in summer of 1864 at Wauhatchie, Tn. but ordered back to Louisville because of debilitation.Returned to regiment a few days before their discharge in July 1865.
Discharged 15 July 1865 at Edgefield, Davidson Co., Tn.
Resided at Falmouth, Pendleton Co., Kentucky from discharge till 1890 working as a saddler and farmer.
Married Hester Jane Hitch, 20 September 1864 near Concord Church, Pendleton Co., Kentucky by Rev. Henry P. Thompson.Celebrated their 50th Anniversay together 1914.
Children: Edward Hitch McGinety b. 28 March 1866, John William McGinety b. 13 September 1872; and, Della May McGinety b. 7 Octobe 1874, wife of Arthur L. Byron.All living as of 8 April 1915.
At time of pension application 25 January 1890 he was living at 213 West 5th Street, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio
Depositions taken from other Pendleton Countians serving with him - Milton Lovelace, living on Dividing Ridge, Pendleton Co., Ky.; John Oetzal, living at Morning View, Kenton Co., Ky.; Addison Waggaman living at Penhurst, Pendleton Co., Ky.and, Cane Saunders living at Demossville, Pendleton Co., Ky. cooked for him in the field.
Resided at Falmouth, Pendleton Co., Kentucky from discharge to 1890 working as a saddler and farmer.
He spent his final years in the National Military Home near Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio.
He died 24 July 1919 of chronic interstitial nephritis.
His son, John William MCGinety lived at 351 Lemcke Annex, Indianapolis, Indiana at time of his death.
He was buried along side his wife in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth, Pendleton Co., Kentucky.

1st Lt. John P. McGinety, Co. E, 7th Regiment Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry, U.S.A. enlisted 4 July 1862; mustered in at Nashville, Tn. 24 June 1863; promoted from 2nd Lt. to 1st Lt. 24 June 1863; resigned 23 August 1864. (It is possible that John was also captured at the first battle of Cynthiana and was delayed in mustering in to the regiment.)
