Aaron, We are related to Eli through his son (your great-uncle) Thomas.
Our father was Thomas C. McGinty.
We beleive that Robert Newton McGinty (son of Joseph Jackson McGinty)is probably our Eli McGinty's father.
Ruth had letters that Robert was kind enough to copy and send to us that show that Eli tried to contact his "uncle" Eli Hood and DID contact his "uncle" Thomas B. McGinty. He states that he doesn't remember much about his father or his people and doesn't mention his mother at all. All we know for sure is that he states he was born in AR and it is possible that Robert McGinty and his wife Nancy Couch had another son not noted anywhere. In the 1850 census, Robert and his wife and his children are all found together. However, neither he nor Nancy are shown in the 1860 census. The children are found either on thier own or with various (Eliza is with a family named Dentons; Mary Jane and a daughter born in 1854 named Charity are living with Nancy's mother, Charity Couch and with Jasper Hill in 1870) family members. Eli is shown to be living with the Bradford family in the 1870 census with an estate of $600.
I have Eli's will and some pictures of him with his first wife (and our great-grandmother) Caroline (Callie) Small McGinty and with his second wife Mary Jane Neighbors Richie.
I have been in contat with members form both the Small family and the McGinty and have been trying to piece this all together for several years. We would love to share our files and would like to update our records to include your information. We only had one child for Hugh and that was Linda but I have not details on her either.
I also have a picture that someone sent us of Robert and Allie's daughter's (Hugh's sister who died when she was only two years old) grave marker.
