I hope they help.I do not know the substance of the law suit.Perhaps there is a record of the proceedings which can be had by writing to the clerk of the current court in that county.
What we do not have is a good identity of the life and descendants of all his children.

1915 Madison Co, IA history of Jonathan's son James W. McGlothlen contains the following:
"Family moved to Virmillion Co. Ill in 1852.Father (Jonathan)owned several hundred acres of fine land.raised horses, was in milling business at time of death in 1863.Had helped build church building.Wife died at age 50.Had six sons, James is 2nd."
"Sylvester Cheny killed Jonathan McGlothlin in the fall of 1863 at 'Squire Riley's', in the South part of the township.They were engaged in a lawsuit.Cheney was tried at Crawfordsville, by change of venue from Covington and the jury found him not guilty, and he was discharged.The weapon used was a revolver.McGlothlin was shot three or four times."p 224, History of Fountain County, H.W. (DCM Note:Covington, IN is 30 miles West of Crawfordsville, IN, on U.S. Highway 136.Crawfordsville is today in Montgomery Co, IN and Covington is today in Fountain Co, IN.County boundaries may have been different in 1863.
