I have a Thomas Aloysius McGowan in my tree-he is my Grandfather-but he was not born in Ireland, he was born
in 1915 and died in 1975. I also have a Thomas McGowan (do not know his middle name) who was born in NJ in 1857, he is the Son of the Original couple who came over in the famine years. My tree dates back to the 1850's in Monmouth County NJ.The first McGowans of our line were Hugh and Bridget McGowan. We have not been able to trace where in Ireland (or Scotland) they came from.
Here is my original post from a few years ago:
Hello all that read this,
My Name is Sean McGowan, I live in Tucson AZ. My father and I are researching our family tree, but have reached the end of any information with Hugh Mcgowan Sr. who was born in Ireland in 1820 (married to Bridget born in Ireland 1830), his son Hugh McGowan (born February of 1862 in NJ) who was married to Catherine Nolan (Born in 1860 in NJ)after being married to Mary Collins Born in 1865 NJ. If anyone out there has any information of these ancestors or any other offspring of Hugh and Bridget:James McGowan born in Scotland 1851-Katherine McGowan born in NJ 1853-Thomas McGowan born in New Jersey 1857-Mary Ann McGowan born in New Jersey 1860. This whole family is on record on the 1870 Monmouth County NJ Census. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
