FAIRFIELD ? Brian McGuire, 60, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Rosary/Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at the church. Brian was a native of Franklin Square, Long Island, N.Y. and had resided in Fairfield for over 28 years. He attended Catholic grammar school and Catholic high school on Long Island and received a B.S. in 1966 and MBA in 1974 from the University of Dayton. He served his country as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1971. His permanent assignment was McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, but he was deployed to Southeast Asia. During that time, he flew combat missions in Vietnam as a senior weapons controller. Brian held management positions with Ball Metal Container, the city of Oakland and the Oakland Housing Authority. He was awarded a lifetime certification by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). He served as president of the California Association of Public Purchasing Officers (CAPPO) in 1991. Throughout his career, he worked with CAPPO in promoting professionalism, continuing education and ethical standards in public purchasing. He shared his knowledge of purchasing with peers and associates. As a member of Holy Spirit Church, he served as chairperson of the Religious Education Commission, was a religious education teacher, Eucharist minister and usher. Brian also devoted many hours of service to Holy Spirit School and was active in the Men?s Club. He was elected to the first Holy Spirit School Board. Brian?s ?hobby? was maintaining his house and garden. He derived great pleasure from his projects, big or small. He was always willing to share his expertise with family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. There was nothing more important to him in this life than his family. He will be greatly missed but forever loved and cherished. Brian is survived by Mary, his wife of 35 years; daughters and sons-in-law Kristin and Steve Elser of Carmichael and Eileen and Rob Yates of Novato; sister and brother-in-law Maureen and George Coan of Fort Myers, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law Joseph and Mary McGuire of Rocky Mount, Va. and Robert and Valeri McGuire of Edmond, Okla.; mother Josephine McGuire of Danbury, Conn. The family respectfully request that in lieu of flowers, all memorial contribution be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1050 N.
