Reading from William McGuire Pension Application it states as follows; he was by Capt. Moore appointed an Indian Spy and that he acted as such on Blue Stone,-------and the Tugg Fork of Sandy, for about thirteen years, in the "Brief in the Case of William McGuire" addendum to his Pension Application it states that he served as Indian Spy for 13 months at the rank of Lieut. under Col. Preston, this was the service period what the government actually provided him a pension for.
As for the Battle of Kings Mountain the following information is applicable; The Battle of Kings Mountain was a decisive battle between the Patriot and Loyalist militias in the Southern campaign of the American Revolutionay War. It took place on October 7, 1780 in the area of Kings Mountain in North Carolina, where Patriot Militia defeated the Loyalist forces commanded by British Major Patrick Ferguson of the 71st of Foot. A diagram of the Battle of Kings Mountain can be found on page 236b of the book "Kings Mountain Heroes" by Peter G. Thomson. This battle contained both Loyalist Militia Forces and British Troops.
