Here is some information on a couple of documents on our McGuires, that I found at the Tazewell Courthouse, on Josiah and Joseph McGuire.
One is appraisement of Josiah McGuire's estate. It was dated Aug.1st,1838 and completed Feb.27th,1839. From the appraisement it seems as if he was a farmer. No administrater was mentioned so I don't think he had any sons. The appraisement was signed by James Bruster,Milborn White,Iseral Vandike, and Mark T. Lockhart.
The Josiah McGuire seems to be the older Josiah that may have been a brother to Lt.William McGuire 1757/1837. Josiah McGuire is found in the 1820/1830 census but not in 1840.He is mentioned in the early records of Tazewell county and is sometimes referred to as Joseph/Jeesiah Mcguire. From census records he may have had one daughter living at home. He may have had sons that were grown and moved away.
The second document is the estate sale for Joseph McGuire dated Nov. 28th. 1847. This is Joseph McGuire that married Elizabeth Brown. It states that his sons James and Cornelius McGuire were his administraters. Two of the buyers were Elijah and William McGuire that may also be his sons.
