I just came across information taking my McHale greatgrandfather's family back to at least 1775 in Lahardaun, County Mayo, Ireland.
The earliest name I have is now Walter MacHale who was married in 1775 to an unknown woman in Mayo. They had at least one son, Michael, who in 1820 married a Mangan in Mayo. Michael and his wife had at least two sons, Walter and William. William married a B. (Bridget?) Moran 2-24-1845 in Mayo. They had at least 6 children, Patrick (3-17-1847), Michael (12-1-1850), Martin, Henry/Harry, Mary, and William (my greatgrandfather), born in 1862.
William came to the US sometime between 1880 and 1883 and married Honor McHale (also of Mayo) in Wilkes Barre, PA August 16, 1885. They had 6 children: Bridget (my grandmother) and later to be Mrs. Edward Gilroy; Michael, Ann, Mary, Helen, and Katherine. William spelled his name McHale. William and Honor lived in Avoca, Luzerne County, PA.
William's brother, Patrick, stayed in Ireland on the farm outside of Lahardaun in the "Cum" district, with his sister Mary who also never married.
Martin and Michael came to the US and apparently went to Colorado and worked in the mines, living in the Aspen/Denver area.
Henry/Harry went to Australia - no more is known of what happened to him.
Walter MacHale (the other son of Michael MacHale and ? Mangan) married a Mary Moyles in Mayo. They had at least one son, Michael, who married an Ellen Donahue. They had at least one son, Michael. Ellen Donahue's parents were Edward Donahue and Honor MacHale!!
The Walter MacHales also had a farm near Lahardaun.
I won't get into Honor McHales family also from Mayo very near Lahardaun because it gets too confusing with all of those McHales/MacHales together. Honor's family is from the CastleHill district outside of Lahardaun (Bally Lahan)...not sure of spelling.
I am looking for others with possible connections to this family.
