There are several Gaelic names anglicised into McCain, so I have a general interest the the original forms. I have found septs of McCains from Clare, Wexford, on up into Ulster, then the Antrim ones, the several Scottish ones as well.Interesting stories all. Most of the Irish McCains come from the name Mac Catháin, some of the Scottish McCains come from the name Mac Eáin.
