Hello! I am a relative from further back in the family tree.Here is some information as I know it.
John McKechnie - 1779-1841 and Mary Gray -1785-1849
born around Coleraine, Ireland
Children:Robert (1807-1902); MArtha (1809-1824); Stephen (1812-1906); Mary (1814-1842); Rachel (1817-1893)
The family moves to Scotland.
John (1820-1894); Thomas (1822-1873); Martha (1824-1855); Jesse (1826-1924).
Your ancester, Robert(1) married Margaret Waters in 1833. Their son, Robert(2), was born in 1835. There are at least three others-Margrit,Stephen and William.
The family came to Dundas, Ontario in 1842. They worked for John Gartshore. Robert(2) started Canada Tool Works in1859. He retired from business in 1886.
His first wife was Isabella Ross (about 1836). His second wife was Elizabeth King. There are 15 McKechnies buried in the Grove Cemetery, Wentworth, Co, Ont.
Robert was very active in business and political circles. He was known as "Young Canada" and his father as "The Old War Horse"
