My information is sketchy as are most stories from the early 1900's. The story says John Childers, Will Childers and Ed Windham married McKee sisters. They all came to Rains County, Texas together, along with their younger brother, John Henry McKee. This supposedly happened when my grandfather was about 8 years old. (I am at work, so I can't put an exact date on it, but it was the early 1890's) My grandfather was named William Franklin Childers and was the son of John Childers and Love Deann McKee.The story says they came by wagon train which they joined in Jackson. Willie Goff and the Ingram family were supposed to be from the same place.
I had been unable to place them in Mississippi as I had no name for any of the fathers. Marriage records apparently were lost in the 1920's when the Kemper County courthouse burned. All records were lost. So, until the Mormons came out with an 1880 census index last year, I was lost.
I did not know that the father came with them. That part of the story did not survive through the years. He must also be buried in an unmarked grave.
I would also love to hear anything you might be able to tell me.
