Hello, John. I am basically in the same boat you are. My McKee family dates back to Ireland and I suspect, Scotland before that. In fact, the farthest back I have gone so far is to my gg-great-grandfather, John McKee, who was born abt. 1816, in Co. Down, to Thomas McKee and I do not know who his mother was. He married Margaret Roddie, a daughter of James Roddie and Elnor Nesbit. They had 2 children while still in Ireland (Thomas and George) and then went to NB, Canada in 1847. After settling there, John and Margaret had 5 more children: Mary and Elizabeth Amelia (twins), John, William and Ellen (twins). Their son Thomas Mckee, was my ggreat-grandfather. He married Sarah E. and they had 5 children: Inez Z., Lilly M., George Ira, Thomas L., and Walter M. George Ira Mckee was my great-grandfather. He married Jennie Bartlett and they had 13 children: Frederick, Thomas, Vern, Allie, Garfield, David Emil, Lawrence and Florence (twins), Stella, Laura, Eva, Rita, and Charlotte. David Emil Mckee was my grandfather. he was born in Calais, Washington County, Maine on January 23, 1910. He married my grandmother, Velma Faustina Morrison, in 1929. They had 3 children: Kenneth, Darleen Vilda (my mother), and Brian.
My mother was born on April 29, 1940 in Island Falls, Maine. She married my father, Robert Roland Holmes, on April 6, 1957 and I was born on December 28, 1957. I have 7 children with my husband and we also have 5 grandchildren.
I know that you want to know where you can go to get good information about your family. Sorry to get carried away, but I have found that one of the ways to find some information is through just this...sharing of info, and possibly finding a connection. There are also some very good sites to go to for help. One of these is: CyndisList atwww.cyndislist.com. Another good site is www.myfamily.org, www.ancestry.com., WorldGenWeb Project. Try these out and see what you can find. Also, check out the great sites that deal with Irish Immigrations (Canadian sites have tons of information). Message boards are actually some of the best ways to find information because many of us attempt to make connections this way. You may even find someone that already has the information and they just might share.
I hope this helped and God bless! If I can be of any help, please feel free to e-mail me. NandRGay@aol.com Hope to hear from you......Rolande
