MARSHALL D. EUSTIS
Marshall D. Eustis was born about 1839. His parents were Thomas Eustis and Parthenia Pitts. Parthenia married Thomas Eustis on November 27, 1826 in Winthrop, Kennebec County, Maine.Her parents were Shebal Pitts and Abigail Cox.Marshall had two brothers, Albert W. and Hiram P. and two sisters, Adelia and Helena. Adelia Myrtilah Eustis married Robert H. Cain in Rockford, Illinois. Their children were Emma, Carrie, Mary and Maria. In the 1880 Bureau County, Illinois census she was living in Macon Township. Helena married Thomas Marshall.
Marshall D. Eustis was a member of Company 'K', 57th Illinois Volunteers, enlisting September 17, 1861 in Buda but giving his residence as Flora Township in Boone County, Illinois. He was described as having brown hair, gray eyes, dark complection, 5' 10" tall and single. The enlistment was for 3 years. His state of nativity was Maine. He reenlisted for 3 years as a Vet Volunteer in December, 1863 in Lynnville, Tennessee listing his residence as Princeton, Bureau County, Illinois this time. He was promoted to Sargeant then 1st Lieutenant. He became Captain of the 111th United States Colored Troops (USCT) in January, 1864 and was discharged in November 9, 1866.
William C. Allen was also a member of this unit. William C. Allen enlisted in October, 1861. His term of service did not end until July 7, 1865 and he ranked as First Lieutenant when discharged. He probably met Marshall D. Eustis while they were serving together in this unit.
Marshall D. Eustis married Sarah J. McKee in 1869 after being discharged in November, 1866. Sarah was born in 1848/52 in Flora Township, Boone County, Illinois.
Sarah's parents were Samuel McKee (born: 17 March 1814 Washington Co. or Blair Co., Pa. - died: 2 April 1882 Flora Twp., Boone Co., IL) and Elizabeth Neff (born: 30 September 1815 or 1829 in Washington Co., or Blair Co., PA - died: 11 November 1910 Cedar Falls Blackhawk Co., IA.at the home of her daughter and son-in-law). Samuel McKee owned an 80 acre farm in Irene, Boone County, Illinois.

Marshal and Sarah didn't have any known children. Two of his sisters were:Helena F. Eustis who never married. She died in Chicago on January 27, 1897.Adelia Myrtilah Eustis who was born November 15, 1827 in Jay, Franklin County, Maine. She married Robert H. Cain in Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois. Robert died June 5, 1879 and Adelia died December 26, 1905. They are buried in the Hopeland Cemetery(old section), in Concord Township, Bureau County, Illinois. Their children were: Emma; Carrie L. (May 9, 1864-June 20, 1943); Maria (June 24, 1867-March 24, 1934) and Mary (June 24, 1867-October 30, 1954).

It is not known when or where Marshall D. Eustis was born or when he died. His will was made in July, 1895 in Washington Township, Butler County, Iowa and proven September 21, 1896. He died in Buchcana County, Iowa.
