Hello James, Thanks for the response.Have you seen any information about Margaret's Last Will and Testament that would lead you to suspect that they would be grandsons to Margaret? That is an interesting thought but I haven't seen any documentation to support that idea.
Robert Ramsey in "Carolina Cradle" says she is probably a sister to this James. He says:QUOTE:
"John McKee died in Derry Township in 1748;James McKee in the same place fourteen years later.Margaret McKee was evidently the sister of the latter.John McKee, who settled on the headwaters of Eight Mile Shoal Creek, a tributary of the Catawba, was UNDOUBTEDLY a near relative."END OF QUOTE
Robert Ramsey makes reference to:(42)Lancaster Wills I-1 330 and (43) B-1 621 for the above John and James in Lancaster Co PA.And then on the following page of his book uses the same references for Margaret as he used for John and James.I draw a conclusion based on that fact (if true) that if this Margaret is mentioned in the same reference with John 14 years earlier and James that Robert Ramsey based his mention of Margaret as a sister to James as being proven in the LW&T's of the same John and James. Thus following this would say John was the father and James and Margaret his children.
I had really hoped to have someone share the LW&T of James and/or Margaret to prove or disprove the current theory but if it's out there no one appears to be interested in postng it on the boards.I have copies of the records ordered from Wichita Genealogical Society since last Fall but they are short of volunteers and could be awhile yet.
I fear the truth of the McKee in the Carolinas is forever unknown (to me).Pity.
