ALEXANDER MCKEE left minor children that he mentions in his LW&Twhich was proven on April 23rd 1798 Mecklenburg (NC) CountyCourt.Subscribing witnesses proving said LW&T were Adam ORMOND and Alexander HODGE.Executors qualified were John HODGE and John PATTERSON.
The minor children put to apprenticeships were THOMAS MCKEE aged 6 years and 6 months (age corrected atOctober 1798 court to 6 years and one month).Thomas McKee was bound during the July 1798 sessionto John STITT to learn the art of Waggon Maker until he arrives at the age of 21 years.
And, ALEXANDER MCKEE, an orphan of Alexander McKee dec'd ordered by court bound to James WATSON tolearn the trade of a blacksmith until 21 years now being 15 years of age.
And, WILLIAM MCKEE, 8 year old orphan of Alexander McKee bound to JOHN HOUSTON until 28 years old to learn the trade of a Taylor.(Using spelling from transcription also length of years that he was bound.)
And RUTH MCKEE 11 and one half years old to John BARNETT and Rosana to learn the art of seamstress.
AT THE 1799 OCTOBER SESSION The court ordered that John PATTERSON enter as GUARDIAN for ALEXANDER MCKEE, an orphan of Alexander McKee dec'd who was bound with _____________HODGE, Security in the sum of £150.00.(Again from the transcription record the blank is for first name of John Hodge presumably but not stated as such.)
AT THE 1803 APRIL SESSION John HODGE was appointed guardian for WILLIAM AND THOMAS MCKEE, orphans and minors ofAlexander McKee dec'd who was bound with John KNOX and John ALEXANDER, Securities, in the Sum of £300.00.
John KNOX above is probably related to Alexander McKee by the earlier marriage of the only KNOX sister to Alexander McKee. Alexander McKee was also married to BLAIR.
JOHN HODGE was married to KATY MCKEE, daughter of ALEXANDER MCKEE, and KATY was sister to the above minor McKee children.
A law suit against the estate of Alexander McKee was filed by Wm Hull and wife.I believe this was also a daughter of Alexander McKee and his LW&T shows the husband's surname as HALL.In one entry in the official records she is named as SARAH (April Session 1800 Book 4 page 221).John KNOX appeared as a witness two different court dates and traveled 72 miles.Wm HULL / HALL and wife apparently lived in South Carolina and also gave depositions at an earlier date.William MILWEEwas also a witness and traveled 15 miles. In second entry for court for this case the wife of William HULL is written as AGNES.(July Session 1800 Book 4 page 224).
Alexander McKee's oldest son JOHN MCKEEmarried Elizabeth HODGE sister of JOHN HODGE who married Katy McKee.
The LW&Tof FRANCIS HODGE which was probated April 1810 MENTIONS HIS DAUGHTER ELIZABETH MCKEE AND HIS SON jOHN HODGE.
Alexander McKee's daughter, JANE MCKEE, married WILLIAM GRAHAM
Alexander McKee's daughter, MARY MCKEE, married John GUYER.
Alexander's daughters, KILSEY and ELIZABETH, are mentioned in his LW&T but are not bound out nor further accounted for that I have discovered so far.
The same goes for his daughter, RUTH MCKEE, who was bound to John and Rosana / RosannahBARNETT.RUTH would have been about twenty years old if she was living in 1807 whenJohn BARNETT was deceased by JULY 1807 andhis LW&T was probated at the July 1807 court session.William MCKEE, probably a brother to the Alexander McKee who died in 1798 - (although this has not been researched by me) - was an executor along with George ALEXANDERfor the estate of John BARNETT.
I would very much like to hear from descendants of the above or from anyone who has further information about these folks - where they went, who they married, how long they lived, where did the senior Alexander McKee come from and when and where his wives died and which children were born towhich wife and when, just the usual (:-) etc.
Hope this information helps someone else in thieir searching also.
