Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Aug 8 2005 - Bula Mae McKee Saunders, 87, was received into the House of the Lord Saturday, July 30, 2005, at 3:50 p.m. at Westwood Nursing Center, Clinton, where she had resided since March 2000. She was born June 17, 1918, in Eureka Township, Mitchell County, Kansas, to Milton and Jessie (Murray) McKee, the second oldest of nine children and was raised on the prairies of Kansas. She attended the common schools and graduated from Asherville (Kansas) High School in 1938. She moved to Kansas City and attended Brown Mackie Business College, graduating in 1940. She was employed by Minneapolis Moline Implement Company 1940-1942, North American Aviation 1942-1945, Deluxe Check Printers, 1945-1947, and was a bookkeeper for Ostertag Optical from 1958 through retirement. On September 8, 1945, she was united in marriage to John William Saunders in Kansas city where they made their home and raised three children. Bula and John retired to Clinton in 1980. Bula was very active with the Golden Valley Hospital Auxiliary accumulating over 2,5000 volunteer hours and was chosen Volunteer of the Month several times. She was a member of the Melrose United Methodist church in Kansas City and then the Clinton United Methodist Church and was active with several church groups. She lovingly embroidered dish towels for her children and grandchildren, enjoyed reading, the activities of the Fun and Fellowship at church and helping others. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Opal Peterson Richardson, and two brothers, Kenneth Wilbur McKee and Milton Keith McKee. Bula is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Saunders, also a resident of Westwood, Clinton; children Robert Saunders, Piscataway, New Jersey, Patricia (David) Bookout, Bushnell, Illinois, and Barbara (Stephen) Campbell, Kansas City; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kimberley) Bookout, Wildwood, Melanie (David) Ruby, Burlinton, Massachusetts, Kyle (Uria) Bookout, Saint Meinrad, Indiana, and Caleb and Joshua Campbell, Kansas City; great-grandchildren, Anna Rose Rudy and Jacob Lawrence and Madeline Mae Bookout; sisters Hazel Saunders, Climax Springs, Edith (George) Kartsonis, Lee's Summit, Mary Ellen (Lawrence) Tripp, Beloit, Kansas, Vera Jean (Sterling) Stage, O'Fallon; brother Murry Neal (Ina May) McKee, Fall Branch, Tennessee; sister-in-law Betty McKee, Beloit, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Clinton, Wednesday, August 3. Graveside services and interment was held at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City.
