The McCLURE family came to this country from Ireland many generations ago, and have been equally honored and prominent in both lands.
(I) JUDGE McCLURE spent the greater part of his life in Mifflin Twp., Allegheny Co., Pa., where he was one of the pioneers of the section.He assisted in clearing a great part of the land of timber, and was actively engaged in farming.His political affiliations were with the Republican party, and he was a member of the Methodist Church.He married CATHERINE COX and had children: ALEXANDER, FRANCIS, ANDREW, SUSANNAH, MARGARET and SARAH.
(II) ANDREW McCLURE, son of JUDGE and CATHERINE (COX) McCLURE, was born in Mifflin Twp. in 1824, and died in 1908.He was educated in the public schools, and in early manhood established himself as a farmer except for a short period spent in mercantile business.He lived near McKeesport, on the White Oak Levels.He was active in the affiliations of the Republican party, and served as tax collector.His religious affiliations were with the Methodist Church, in which he was also active.He married MARY, a daughter of SAMUEL and CATHERINE (WEBB) KELLY, and they had children: CATHERINE, married RUFUS McKEE; ELIZABETH, married HENRY MIKLE; SAMUEL A.; DANIEL, married PRISCILLA TAYLOR; SARAH, married A.
