Being a retired city planner, I've been working on the finding properties of John McKee and identified the ones described in the will.My guess is that there never was a Talbott W. McKee, and that it was mis-heard by the transcriber of the will. Also, I question whether or not Josiah (transcribed as Isiah) got the north side of the northeast quarter of Section 7.I bet John meant the south side of the southeast quarter of Section 7, which would have been directly next to the properties in Section 18.He was a little lax in completing the legal descriptions in the will, and something certainly went awry since these properties were not given their land patents until 1939, though they were supposed to have been issued in 1812 (Patent #1101463)and 1813 (Patent # 1101464). A fellow at NARA is looking into this further and we may get some answers as to what happened with the properties because it seems everyone pretty much headed to the next county over (Henry) once they were old enough to work on their own property acquisition in the 1830s.Guess I need to see what I can do about getting old deeds in Indiana from here in Oregon.
Do you or anyone else have an idea whether or not John and Melinda McKee are truly buried on the original farm land or in the Jacksonburg Cemetery, which is directly right of the southeast quarter of Section 7 and on the same side of Jacksonburg road, though not in Section 7 or 18? I'm wondering if the Jacksonburg Cemetery might be on one of John McKee's original Jacksonburg lots.
Anyway, I'll try to keep you posted.
For anyone with access to Google Maps or Google earth, Tabor's property would have included the flag lot with the the old farm house. The property of Moses was adjacent to the south and where the right fork of the river begins (as viewed from the air).John's property would have been directly west of the Y in the river, and the property of PLW was just south of that.
The 1856 Wayne county map (available at the Wayne County website) shows the name of Ebenezer Eliason over the property of Tabor and part of the property of Moses. The property of PLW has a name of John M (illegible) but very likely intending to be McKee.
Well that's probably more information than anyone but geograpers wanted
