Hi Pat--Perhaps I can help.I am a native of Pulaski Co KY, Whitley's neighbor to the north.I search my mother's McKee family.Search Pulaski Co KY on this McKee Board for some of my posts.
I have access to some of Pulaski Co Historical Society's cemetery, census & marriage books and a few month's ago decided to identify the McKee's in those books. Also, have searched on genforum, genweb & rootsweb.
It appears to me Matthew McKee was likely the father of Hawkins and his seven siblings. Matthew married 2nd Susanna Rouse and lived near the NW border of Pulaski Co, a small community called Mintonville.Matthew's will was probated in Pulaski Co KY mentioning his son James (about age 10) and Baptist McKee (Hawkins' brother).
A handwritten note from 1988 is in the McKee file in the Pulaski Co KY Hist. library and says that Matthew fought in the Rev. War from NC.The writer had no more info.Matthew either was very young in the war or older than I had first thought. On a later Casey Co KY census son James reported his father was born in IR (Ireland?)
Elias McKee was a son of Baptist.Elias and his wife had several children.Elias & Sarah are buried in Neeley's Creek cemetery in southern Pulaski Co KY.Their son Stephen McKee married Dona Roberts and also had a large family in south Pul Co KY.
I will be glad to email where I located pieces of info.I have not been able to connect this McKee family with my McKee. Betty Jo Moss
