Diane, I just realized you asked me a question and I did not take the opportunity to answer. So, let me again digress about "my" McKee.........
..........my connection with Joplin is more with the general area than Joplin itself.A "bunch" of pioneers left Rutherford Co and Wilson Co TN ca 1840 and among those was Andrew McKee one of the sons of Ambrose McKee of Mecklenburg Co NC and Sally Bain (Bean.
Andrew McKee and Eliza [Hoskins] married Jan 11 1827 at RU Co TN.Andrew was very prominent in Jasper Co MO before his untimely death in 1852.Andrew and Eliza had a large family and left descendants who married into Lewis, McDaniel, Hall, Whitlock, Thompson, Wm Tingle, Challes Challis, Golden / Goldding.William E. Johnson married Adaline Catherine McKee on Oct 28 1869.She was a daughter of Andrew.(Son of P R Johnson and Mary Johnson). A son, William T McKee, was buried in Carl Junction Cemetery at Jasper 1927.Sarah Mary McKee Thomas (A daughter of Ambrose and Sallie [Bain] McKee) married Issac Newton Johnson at Wilson Co TN in 1850 and they went to Newton Co MO also.Their daughter married Wm JANNEY there in 1877.
Andrew's youngest brother, Ambrose III, was among those going to Newton Co and Jasper Co in MO in 1842.He is noted as having been a "retired farmer, owner of mining lands;and, the post office Joplin."He was also a mechanic for the government in Indian territory.Between 1860 and 1866 he moved to Texas.Ambrose III married on Catherine THOMAS, dau of Wilson and Sallie [Vance] Thomas. They died after 1900 at Neosho and buried at International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery, Newton Co MO.
LARRY JAMES, a prominent local author in Jasper, Newton, etc is descended from Sarah McKee THOMAS, sister of Andrew and Ambrose III McKee.Sarah married Henry THOMAS Aug 11 1827 at RU Co TN and was killed in 1840 in Wilson Co TN.Larry JAMES says Sarah was not living in the 1850s and at the time of writing this he said, ".....there is nothing at this point to an exact time of her death".Sarah and Harry Thomas had 9 children.
I have quite a bit of info on these folks and it was all shared with me by Marica Kalapus, Neal Freeman, Carol Gibson.Probably others I am forgetting, I hope not and sorry if so.Thanks to all of them.
The author of "THE BOOK OF MCKEE", RAYMOND W.MCKEE, was from the same place.
The above would all be cousins of my husband, Doug McKee, in whose name I do this searching.
