WILLIAM MCKEE WILL OF December 1, 1819 - ABSTRACT IREDELL COUNTY NORTH CAROLINA
William McKee begins his LW&T with a preamble and then details disposal of his property, real and personal.His first bequest is to his wife Mary consists of household Slaves to be later passed on to son John H. Mckee.William then bequests to Mary, two rooms and furnishings as well as a kitchen in house where he lives for future personal use of wife and daughters.
William then bequests to his son John H Mckee. the plantation and live stock where William now lives and all the land that he owns which joins that plantation.Further, John H. is give the plantation operation and accounts with conditions: First that the plantation is Bounded for lifetime support of wife Mary and two unmarried daughters in a style consistent to what they had from William. Second that all debts be paid and that a quality horse and two good cows be given to each sister Nancy and Peggy.To his brother Jefferson McKee is to be given four hundred dollars and to his brother Elam five hundred dollars.
William then gives Slaves and furniture to each daughter Nancy and to Peggy and to son Jefferson .William bequests a plantation on lease to son Elam McKee with restrictions on sale and some future benefits to Nancy and Peggy.
William again admonishes son John H. to care for his mother and sisters.John H. is appointed sole Executor of William McKee’s Estate.Signed with seal on the first day of December 1819.Witness are R. Simonton and J? Callaway.

1.Believed to be the son of James & Margaret McKee of and born in Lancaster Co PA about 1745.William relocated with mother & siblings to NC about1760.William reported to have mar (1) Mary Welsh/ch,(1) on1/3/1774 (poss died after birth of dau Sarah McKee), with Peter McNamee as bondsman in Rowan Co&(2) Mary McHenry (b1761-d12/02/1853 @92 yrs)dau of Archibald McHenry who in 1732 is listed in Fairfield SC but moved to NC. Mary was brother of Henry McHenry.Wm Mckee & Mary McHenrywere maron 5/13/1779 in Rowan Co NC. They had James L., Nancy, John Henry, Robert, Margaret (Peggy), Elam (Eli), and T. 2.Williamserved several short terms in Rev. War between 1776-81, possibly as wagon-master (pvt) of NC Militia Companyagainst Tories and Indians. Mary filed in 1844 and granted a Rev. 3. William purchased on 5, Aug 1777 for £100, 240 acres of land on waters of Fourth Creek from mother Margaret (Widow) McKee.This parcel as one-half of Granville Tract land conveyed to Margaret McKee on 15 Jan,1760 by Robert Allison and wife as arraigned by Robert Simonton.Ref: Rowan County NC Deed Books 4:209 & 8:415.
