Now I am thinking Susan and William were married in IA and Susun is William's 2nd wife.
And William had a 1st wife named Nancy, who birthed his 1st 3 children (one of which appearently died) in Penn.
And all of the subsiquent children born to William and Susan, were in IA. I believe Ann being the 1st.
Does that sound right?
The reason I say, the 1850 Census shows:
Name: William Gormly Event: Census Event Date: 1850 Event Place: Derry, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, Gender: Male Age: 33 Birthplace: Pennsylvania Estimated Birth Year: 1817 Household Gender Age William GormlyM 33 Nancy GormlyF 27 <<<< John M GormlyM 3 Thomas R GormlyM 2 Hanna J GormlyF 0 Jamy SampsonM 14 ----- My speculation is Hanna J and Nancy, both died from problems associted with child birth. Then William and Sons, John and Tom, headed out west, and met up with Susan. There is a 7 year gap between, Thomas, Nancy's last to live, and Ann, Susan's first. And Jamy was probably a slave. maybe? ------ And the 1870 census shows:
Name: William Gormley Estimated Birth Year: 1817 Gender: Male Age in 1870: 53y Birthplace: Pennsylvania Home in 1870: Iowa, United States Household Gender Age William GormleyM 53y Susan J GormleyF 42y <<<<< Thomas R GormleyM 21y Ann M GormleyF 14y Mary E GormleyF 12y Robert C GormleyM 10y Luther GormleyM 5y Calam GormleyM 3y (Should be Calvin)
