Hello,Running some searches this morning and I see my long ago post here and I need to update same.
William Thomas McKee (Sr), the father of William Thomas McKee Jr,was born in Rutherford Co TN in 1829.His family moved to Franklin Co Alabama ca 1833-1834.They were in Rutherford Co TN for the 1830 Federal Census but their next known child, Mary McKee, was born Franklin Co AL 1833.
On his (CSA) pension application(copy of official record ordered by me from the TN State Archives), William Thomas McKee Sr states he was born at Rutherford Co TN Oct 15 1829 and lived there until he was four years old and then family moved to Franklin CoAL.Ambrose McKee, his father, is on the 1840 Federal Census living in Russellville, Franklin Co, AL.They were in Hardeman Co TN by 1847.
Some of this bunch from Mecklenburg Co NC were also early settlers in Panola Co MS.Martha McKee who was the aunt of (Ambrose McKee who is listed on the Franklin Co AL) married Isaac Herron at Mecklenburg Co NC and after moving through KY and Rutherford Co TN they ended up in Panola Co MS and William McKee who was the brother of Martha McKee Herron also is found adjacent to Panola County. Then, Ambrose McKee leaves Hardeman Co TN and is found on the 1853 Mississippi Territorial Census at Panola Co MS.He and wife, Martha, were alsodiscovered there on the1860 census by Kay Hill Woods several years ago when the census were still "scarce as hen's teeth".Daughter also named Martha married a YOUNG (also veried on census) there and Kay determined Ambrose and Martha McKee died there sometime after 1870.(At times it appears that two different Ambrose McKee were involved between Franklin Co AL-Hardeman Co TN-Panola Co MS here and that may yet be true...........very easily a son of each son of Ambrose 1785 also being named Ambrose is probable and possible.)
Ambrose Jr born ca 1779 before his father wrote his LW&T---who married Sallie BAIN (BEAN)---and last known son ofAmbrose 1785 and mentioned in his LW&T is proven to have had an Ambrose III at Rutherford Co TN who migrated to Jasper and Newton County Missouri vicinity in 1840s.Ambrose McKee III and his wife, Catherine Thomas McKee, are buried in the Oddfellows Cemetery ca 1916 era(rough estimate there but is verifiable as to date) in Newton Co MO.The McKee Family at Jasper and Newton in Missouri are well documented by records of author/descendant Larry James of MO and Marcia Kalapus of Californiaamong other resercher/descendants.
The senior Ambrose McKee of this bunch wrotehis LW&T in 1779 at Mecklenburg Co NC and the LW&T was accepted and recorded in court for Probate in Sept 1785 in Mecklenburg Co NC abstracted records.I also have copy of LW&T ordered from the NC Archives and also a copy of the Estate Sale of Ambrose McKee Estate ordered from NC State Archives. His widow, Eleanor McKee, and several of the sons and a brother-in-law most likely, James McKee were in court just after 1800 and recorded as having sold property.(The specifics are recorded.I just don't have my records in hand right now and so posting from recall here for info to the forum.I have copies of all mentioned documents.)
In his LW&T, Ambrose McKee 1785 mentions his seven children and names his four sons:Thomas, William, John (my husband's direct) and Ambrose (Jr).His three daughters (unmarried in 1779) were Martha, Susanna and Mary.
With yDNA tests we have many close links with McKee and especially to Thomas Jefferson McKee of Mississippi who had three wives and about twenty children and migrated into Texas.
These two along with several McKee/McKie/McGee/Kee related men can be seen at the McKee Group at Family Tree DNA as Kits 127187 and 222645.
As mentioned I am speaking from memory here so please verify any info or contact me here for further detail.
