I should greet you as cousin-in-law.This is the first I have seen your message and I'm sorry to have missed being able to share some of your heritage with you sooner.
I believe you are a descendant of Ambrose McKee who died at Mecklenburg Co NC in 1785. Some of his sons, perhaps all four of them, were in Rutherford Co TN around 1800.There's more than one Ambrose in a few generations found at RU Co TN.
My husband's Ambrose who was born 1799-1800 and his father, John, among other siblings were on the 1810-1820-1830 Rutherford Co TN census and his Ambrose left RU CO TN and was in Franklin Co AL for the 1840 census and Hardeman Co TN for the 1850 census.Later an Ambrose McKee and several of the expanding family are enumerated in Panola Co MS on the 1853 Mississippi Territorial Census.
There are also folks who left Hardeman Co TN for Greene Co Missouri later on.A sister of Keziah Sellers McKee (who was my husband's great-great grandmother) moved to Greene Co MO with her husband whose name I have somewhere in messages on this board but cannot recall from memory just now.
The McKee who left Rutherford and Wilson County TN around 1840-1842 went to Joplin area and settled in Newton and Jasper Counties before spreading out from there. There are excellent trees of those descendants.
Sarah Elrod was a sister of Harmon Elrod who married Jinny McKee whose marriage was signed by Ambrose McKee.I do not have my tree right here at hand and typing from recall as I have not looked at this is some time.Several John McKee at that young age and another John McKee with a B. for middle initial married Ann Ramsey along about the same time. The John B McKee is claimed by a lady who used to post as missykaz and I tried for years to contact her but did not manage to do so.I have some hard copy of her work. Her James McKee came to Rutherford Co TN about 1819 I believe. We were never sure if he and Ambrose were brothers or related otherwise.Missy's James McKee Sr believed to have been in Lincoln Co NC before RU Co TN married Polly Sullivan also of Mecklenburg Co NC.Many of the descendants of these folks also end up in Lauderdale Co AL.
I will post again and I will pass this post on to a descendant of the Newton County MO Andrew McKee folks.Andrew was a grandson of Ambrose McKee who died 1785 Mecklenburg Co NC.
My earliest posts on here are under a different link than my current posts but I will post that link when I find it.
