James Monroe McKee and Lucinda Whitby McKee are my great great grandparents. My mother Cana McKee Wiggins is the daughter of Cleighlon Short McKee, who was the son of Wiley E. McKee, son of the above James and Lucinda.
Although your question was posed several years ago I will list the census info for James and Lucinda's family. And I think based on your family tree on ancestry you have already located these census records. But for others I will list it since there are numerous misspellings which complicated the search.
1850 US Census for Hardeman County, Tennessee
James McKee, 30 years of age, M, wagonmmaker, POB TN
Lucinda, 26, FPOB SC
John*, 6, MPOB AL
Ellen, 1, FPOB TN
listed on the same page directly beneath James and Lucinda is Jesse B. Whitby, who I believe to be Lucinda's brother.
Ambrose McKee and Martha (possibly James parents) are listed next.
The John listed on the 1850 census is the child of James McKee and his first wife Mary McEuen. Their marriage record is available on ancestry, as well as Mary's gravestone on Findagrave.
1860 US Census, Panola County, Mississippi, Sardis P.O.
James McKay, 34 (error he was 40) M, Farmer, Land value 1400, cash 600, POB TN
Lucinda36, FHousekeeper, POB SC

Ellen T. (Tellithia) 11, F,POB TN
Willie (correct spelling is Wiley)9, M POB TN
Laura, 7, FPOB TN
Sarah, 5, FPOB MS
James, 3, MPOB MS
Lucinda (Flora), 1, FPOB MS
The last name is misspelled McKay in the 1860 census.I corrected my great grandfather's name and used the spelling used by his children. Also added Flora since that is the name she used.
James McKee enlisted in the confederate forces at Springport, Miss, on 25th of February, 1862.He served in Co. G, 19th Mississippi Infantry Regiment, known as the Panola Co. Invincibles.
James McKee's service medical records which can be obtained from Fold3.com indicate he died of wounds received at Chancellorsville, Va., in May 1863.He died on June 1, 1863 at the General Hospital of Camp Winder in Richmond, VA.He was buried in Hollywood Cemetery. The location of his grave is listed on their website under their genealogy tab. Error alert, many of the family trees on ancestry list his date of death incorrectly as 1862.
Lucinda returned to Hardeman County, TN.
1870 US Census, Hardeman County, TN, District 11
McCee, Lucinda, 46, F, W, Farmer, no real property, 500 dollars in cash.

L.A.17, F, W
Sallie (Sarah)15, F, W
J.M.12, M, W
F.L.11, F, W
S.W. (Samuel)9,M, W
Lucinda's namee is misspelled as McCee, but the listing is clearly their family. And it includes their last child, Sam.(Thanks to Linda McKee).
By 1880 all of Lucinda's child were out of her household except Sam.Ellen married a Sellors or Sellers in 1869.Wiley had married Ella Lagrone. Flora married William Ford.
1880 US Census, Marshall County, Mississippi, Red Banks Precinct

Samuel,W, M 17SonPOB MS the rest is illegible
By 1890, Wiley, James, Flora and Sam all moved with their families to Mississippi, in the area of Panola county, Lucinda who was listed in the household next door to Flora McKee Ford, her youngest daughter, is in the household of William and Flora Ford in 1900.According to the 1900 Census for Panola Co. Mississippi, Springport Precinct Samuel, Flora and Wiley lived next door to each other with their families.According to my family gossip James Monroe McKee moved to Tunica, Miss and then possibly to Arkansas.Eventually Flora and William Ford moved to Shelby County, TN.Flora's death certificate can be viewed on ancestor.com.Her father is listed as John on her death certificate.I have no information as to the whereabouts of either John McKee or his half sisters Laura and Sally.Since Lucinda lists that she had seven children, five of whom was still living on the 1900 census I assume the Laura and Sallie had died.
Thank you for all the information I have found on your family tree and thanks to Linda McKee for her clue about Lucinda's misspelled name on the 1870 census.
I have a few questions, 1.Where did you find James Mckee's middle name?2.How did you verify that Ambrose McKee and Martha Witherspoon are James McKee's parents?
Also, I am trying to verify that Lucinda Whitby's father was Samuel Whitby of Spartanburg, SC.
None of this is new information, but thought it might simplify the search for the next McKee searcher.
My family records do notinclude any mention of the date of Lucinda's death or where she is buried.
As to the ongoing questions as to Lucinda's maiden name, I inherited the notes of family history kept by my mother and aunt.Wiley McKee lived with Cleighlon and Maude McKee for periods after he separated from his wife, Ella Lagrone McKee.This is a question which appeared on ancestry.com.Ella and Wiley separated but did not divorce. Ella remained on the family farm with her son James who was called Jim.Wiley lived with his sons. For a period he lived with my grandparents, Cleighlon and Maudie Belle McKee.Mother remembered him well and recalled spending time with him teling her stories about their family. Since both she and my aunt agree that Wiley said his mother's maiden name was Whitby I think it is accurate.Flora McKee was extremely young when her father died, so I think it is understandable that she probably spoke about her much older half brother, John to her family leading them to believe that was her father's name.
For future searchers, Cleighon Short McKee, was known as C.S. McKee.In the family he was called Cle.C.S. McKee, Jr. is named for him, but his birth certificate listed only his initials. My oldest uncle, Morris is listed on his birth certificate as Morris Cleighlon McKee.
Hope this clear up some of the questions about the Panola County branch of the Hardeman Co. TN, McKee's.
I hope that both Kay and Linda see this post.I would love to communicate directly with both of you.
