I am also a descendant of Nehemiah J. McKinsey, through Morgan McKinsey.Diana Prater and I are third cousins, as as I recall.I got my information mainly from a book by Ruby Mundell Barry entitled "The McKinseys"McKensey, McKenzie, McKinsey Family-----Descendants of George W. McKinsey and his wife Sarah (Thomas) McKinsey of Newberry County, South Carolina and Warren County, Ohio and the migrations of their children into Indiana.
My Aunt Dora Dean Hines contributed to the book, which is in some major libraries. Her contributions were based on knowledge from family members and from census data. The book has your Sarah McKinsey born 1837 (1850 census) marrying John Cox 14 Mar 1856.After he fathered 8 children and died, she then married Leonard Snodgrass and they lived in Hillisburg, Indiana. The children were listed as Rebecca, Hannah, Cassia, Mary, Stella, Frank, Fred, and John. That is as far as the book carried that branch.
I have done a little research on the McKinsey line, but not much. One possibility for George W. McKinsey's father I found by typing in George McKinsey---and his reputed birthyear in Scotland---on the FamilySearch.org site.I found a George McKinsey with the same Christening date in Inverarity or Methy, Angus, Scotland. The father was listed as John.According to Mrs. Barry's book, George W.came as a babe at age 1 to the colonies.
Another thing I have found is mention of George McKinsey's service in the Rev. War.This was in the Rev. War Pension ... section fof Heritage Quest, which is available on line at libraries, and sometimes you can ask the library to give you access from home.If you just type in Thomas Reagan in that section, a 22-page record will come up.I made a transcription of it if anyone would like it e-mailed to them as an attachment. It would be somewhat easier to read. Our ancestors George McKinsey, Mordecai McKinsey, and Catherine (Reagan) McKinsey are mentioned in these documents. ---------Good luck---Cousin Larry
