I am trying to place these two families.
In the 1850 census, we have Theadore McKinstry, b 1818 in Pennsylvania, living in Wayne, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. He has father, Alexander, b abt 1789.Wife Catherine b 1801.Children Susannah 16, James 12, Hannah 9.
From your discussion, this sounds like part of your family group; can you possibly tell me their lineage?
Second, we have a mystery in Ohio.Catherine McKinstry, born 1820, daughter of John McKinstry and Charity Gard. Her son, unspellable Scotch Irish name, last name McKinstry.Illegitimate?Maybe not.Her death certificate says she's the widow of Joseph McKinstry. The son's marriage certificate says his father was Theadore McKinstry. Now, this entire family was in Ohio, so probably said Theadore must have been there. But not many McKinstry's used this name, and none others spelled it this way.Have you got any ideas?
