Sylvia, I found the civil marriage index record you refer to at Familysearch.org .You can send for the actual record from the General Record Office. They havea web site. It's remarkably easy. When I had to do it with my Lowe 3x great grandfather's death record, I faxed my letter and credit card info, and the record showed up in the mail several weeks later.
There may or may not be much more info than you already have, but atleast you'll verify the information.
It's curious they married that far south of the city of Armagh if they were both from there. It is possible that the whole family lived closer to Derrynoose.
McKinstrys of that prosperous family lived in Armagh. It would be really great if you'd consider joining the McKinstry Y DNA project at Family Tree DNA.Eventually someone with proven ties to that family will test (instead of gossipping about a mythical person named Roger, father of all McKinstrys, even those who lived in Ireland before he was born in Scotland, and even though some McKinstrys'e Y DNA lines diverged from other tested McKinstrys 200 years before Roger lived).
Griffiths Evaluation was carried out in 1864 in that area.Big Ireland-wide tax census, includes everyone who owned or rented, or rented out, land.
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuationhttp://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation. There's a paid version somewhere on line that can give you better maps and more info such as how much land.Make sure you get the temporary membership and not the repeating or you'll just about have to send the CIA to unsubscribe.
Only Thomas McKinstry I find is in Lisnadill, which is Armagh McKinstry Gentry Central.James' father could have been dead, or he could be of the Lisnadill family.William Boyd rented out land and held vacant land on which he evidently did not live, in Derrynoose, which is a great distance from where he evidently did live, in one or both of two places not too far from Lisnadil. It's always possible that the actual William Boyd of Derrynoose was well disguised.
The sum total of places where McKinstrys lived in Co Armagh in 1864 include Lisnadill, Armagh, Shankill (probably near Belfast), Seagoe, and Forkill.I couldnt find Forkill, and I couldn't find Seagoe in Co Armagh.
If you have a male relative to do that Y DNA testing, you could answer a few prayers besides your own.:)Ultimately tying you to that family with Y DNA should be a piece of cake.Mind you noone of that family has yet done Y DNA testing, but they will.
Also, because the McKinstry family of that area was prosperous, they left more records than usual. There are land records, tax records, and probate records of this family. They were pretty much downwardly mobile by the mid 19th century, but you might find a paper trail tracing your line.
Someone will now tell you all about mythical Roger's mythical lineage, and fill in the gaps with generous amounts of Irish whiskey.
Yours,
Dora Smith
